Michigan Club Meet, requested by John W Blehm
Michigan Poultry Fanciers – Fowl Fest, Birch Run MI
(http://fowlfest.org/)Contact: Matt Boensch mjwaterfowl@yahoo.com
The Fowl Fest is just 7.5 miles from my house and although it isn't the BIGGEST show, it is the BEST!
Note the new weekend is the 1st full weekend in November. The location is the same place as the past several years, but the name has been changed from The Birch Run Expo Center to Frankenmuth Credit Union Event Center (http://frankenmuthcueventcenter.com/)...I-71 exit #136.

The show catalog for this November 3-4 AA Meet is available at the following link. There are some familiar faces pictured in the catalog this year! Nice job!

I think most of those are Alliance members too! We had a great time there last year and will again this year.

Nothing like waiting to the last minute, just put my entry in of 12 in the mail box. Trying to keep it small and figure I will just pack winners this time. I will say it is amazing what a month does when birds are not quit finished. Talked to Jeff Vance and it looks like they will be making the drive up so it should be another amazing show. If my daughter qualifies for the cross country State meet I may be in trouble. It will be held on the 4th of November at MIS speedway. So I may be putting some miles on between cooping in, making the meet Saturday morning then running back to the show Saturday afternoon. That’s when you know you have crossed the line of becoming a professional chicken junky lol. Well I hope everyone has safe travels and looking forward to another opportunity to hang out and talk chicken with like minded people.

I am shocked with the number of Large Fowl entered :o this is one of the lowest turn outs I have seen :'(. Even though the numbers are down a bit I guarantee it will still be an amazing show. I have a feeling I may be coming home with some silver laced Wyandotte lol.
-
The numbers seem very good to me. When I ran it for several years I always shot for over 1,000 and hoped we didn't get more than 1,500...for an average of about 1,250 entries. It always seemed like the perfect size and I promoted it as "not the biggest...just the best"! I think the most we had was over 1,600 when we hosted a Call Duck National Meet.
-
The Minnesota show, which I attended last weekend, was also down this year. They had a little over 1,500 entries, with 2,000 to 3,000 being normal. I think the two big shows in Oklahoma plus the ABA National at Columbus is hurting numbers at other shows. Quite a few people I spoke with said they would be going to one or the other of the Oklahoma shows, and I know several going to Columbus.
-
Perhaps I need to clarify it was the LF open show entries that seemed low to me. 180 just seemed low to me for this show? Especially with the 486 Bantam entries. I always thought the Bantam and Large Fowl drew about the same numbers?

Ok. I am going to drive thru the night, drop off a dog, pick up a friend, let her drive to the show and I will get to meet you all!! I am excited!! Russell is bringing me a few extra large fowl. Cages are the first thing I have packed! Ha ha Thanks Russell!! Can't wait to meet you all.
-
Hopefully several of us will be able to get together for lunch on Saturday and have some time maybe eat and talk chicken. :D
-
I am almost packed up and ready to head that way, sure wish it was our national meet lol. I actually have a really decent string to bring to this show.
-
There are a lot of Ameraucanas for a Club Meet and of course fellow members that are planning on a great day together tomorrow. :)
-
Don't forget to take lots of photos. Would like to see the winning birds posted here!
-
There were 27 bantam Ameraucanas with 3 more shown in Jr competition.
BB was a black K by Russ Blair and RB was a blue wheaten H by Russ.
There were 16 large fowl Ameraucanas. More birds were entered, but some were "OUT".
BB & CH AOSB was a black C by Nate Rynish and RB & Reserve AOSB was a blue P by Russ Blair - with "Very Nice" lacing for the breed, as per Phil Bartz.
In Jr competition there were 6 LF shown. Adler Pirouz had BB on a black P.
Several of us got together for lunch at my place, but several others couldn't make it due to other commitments. In the "lunch" photo, below, there is Norma Tibor, Jim Fegan, Janie Vilá, John Blehm and Sherry & Jeff Vance. Other members that I saw at the show included Tim Bowsher, Alison Abbott (new member), Carol Straight, Russ Blair, Kate Sparks, Nate Rynish and Dante Pirouz.

I was cooped out and back home by 10am...with the "fall back" time change figured in. It sure is nice to only have a 10 minute drive to the best poultry show in North America!
Below are a couple parting photos from this morning. 8)
