Those Kacki are beautiful. Who bred those?
I did. They just showed up in my hatching and I didn't know why. I may have hatched some more this year and I'm going to grow some of the chicks that look like they may be Khaki or at least their chick down looks like the Dun gene is showing up. Last year I made some outcrosses and did some crossbreeding with buff laced Polish to improve lf buff Ameraucanas. This year as I crossed a buff cock over the crossbred pullets I've hatched chicks with a lot of variation, as expected, but some may be Khaki. Dun (I
D) is an allele on the Dominant White gene/locus. From what I've read one copy of Dun changes black to a gray-brown/chocolate color and two copies produce khaki. It was in 2002 at our national meet in Columbus that I brought home a buff laced Polish cock to use to improve the shank color in lf buff Ameraucanas. It wasn't long after that, that the khaki birds started showing up. At first I thought they may be Smoky (I
S). From what I'm seeing this year I believe the Polish brought the Dun gene into my birds both times...time will tell.
