Montana Spring Fling AA meet
« on: May 04, 2015, 04:27:04 AM »
Hi Everyone,

Last Saturday was the first AA meet in Montana!!!  I was so nervous, but my birds did really well.  There were nine (I think) Ameraucanas there and my black hen got BV BB and Champion AOSB!!  My other hen got the Reserve in AOSB.  The judge spoke at the dinner following the show and he said he was really impressed with the size and condition of the black Ameraucanas.   I was really floored...especially since they were running around in the field eating bugs on Thursday night and  I had no time to properly get them ready for the show.  It was fun and I learned a lot.

John Blehm provided the chicks for me to raise and get prizes with...Thanks!  AND Royce requested the show be approved as an AA meet AND sent me the catalog so I could enter...More Thanks!!  Thanks to everyone who gave me advice about going too.

Congratuations!   You know, there is no better conditioning tool than letting the birds range on their own outside, so long as they can be kept safe from predators, and there are not too many roosters to damage the hens' feathers.   Some colors, like buff and white, can be damaged by the sun, as their feathers become bleached or become brassy in the case of some whites.   Wheaten and blue wheaten females, on the other hand, can actually benefit from the sun so long as it is not overdone.

Yes, very impressive.  :D
Was your other bird, the reserve AOSB, a black Ameraucana hen also?

Hi John

Yes, the Reserve ASOB was black too.  They really are nice birds. I told my friend who was helping me load up the birds that the black bird who was the Champion AOSB was my best chance so I met be getting a little better at picking them out. She was from my first order from you.
you.   Amazing beard and size.  Not too big but very substantial.

Thanks again,

Janie

Congratulations, Janie!!  Way to go!!  Way to start off and way to start off the AA!!  I know the ABC was there so it's terrific to see the competition turn out the way it did.

(Btw, did you get my email reply?  I'm still so bummed I can't even tell ya how much!)
