Storing hatching eggs "upside down"
« on: February 25, 2023, 10:37:56 AM »
In the past I always stored hatching eggs with the pointed end down, the same position they are incubated in. When researching for my Ameraucana Chickens book I read about storing hatching eggs with the pointed end up. The blunt end of the shell, where the air sac is, is more porous and by placing it in the down position the moisture, inside the shouldn't evaporate as quickly.

storing of eggs with air cell down might also enhance the hatchability and weight of hatched chicks

I've used this method this year and plan to continue storing hatching eggs with the blunt end down. I can't tell that it has made a difference in my hatches, but I've had good hatches and I'm sure it hasn't hurt.[/size]
