A hearty congratulations to Ameraucana Alliance member Max Strawn for winning Best Ameraucana and Reserve Champ of show at the ABC National Meet in Arkansas on November 7th. Max had his big win on a large fowl black cockerel. Max, please fill us in on how the rest of your entries did when you have time.
Way to go Max, congrats 😀
CONGRADULATIONS Max!! Did you have any of those blues entered???
Congratulations, Max!
Can we get a picture :)
Thanks everyone for the kind words :) Here are the awards I received...
BV, BB, CH. AOSB, RES. CH. OF SHOW - Black Ameraucana cockerel
BV, RB - Blue Wheaten Ameraucana pullet
BV - Blue Ameraucana pullet
RV - Blue Ameraucana pullet
A special thanks to Paul, Angela, and Matthew for all their hard work. They went above and
beyond with all those beautiful hand made plaques.
The overall show numbers were down by about half due to the AI tesing requirements but
there was still a good number of Ameraucanas shown. 70+ large fowl(open and junior) and
20+bantams. This is the first time I have seen Ameraucana bantams shown in the south.
There are not many down here but I hope to help change that in the near future. ;)
Thanks for that report Max, and the photos too. I would love to see a photo of the BW pullet that went RB! I can't remember that variety in large fowl placing that high before. Did you acquire some bantams from Jerry? Was anyone besides Jerry showing bantams? He has some of the best. Sorry for all the questions. Great job and well deserved!
Thanks Mike. I'm happy to answer all your questions. I was very surprised as well that she placed so high. Paul has the show pictures but I will try to get a few of her this evening before it gets too dark.
I bought a pair of Blue Wheaten bantams from Jerry. I wanted a pair of Wheaten bantams as well but he didn't have any more for sale by the time I arrived. Jerry was the only one who entered bantam Ameraucanas in the show.
I would also like to get a start in Brown Red bantams as well if you know anyone who has them... (hint, hint ;D)

I have very few myself right now, but will see what we can do by next fall. You are the first to ask, so will be first on my waiting list.

Me too!!
Congrats Max! And yes, I too would love to see a pic or two of that BW gal.
As usual, pics rarely do them justice, but this is what I got. I made the mistake of putting her in the large layer pen when I got home so I think she got some feather damage on her back. At least I don't remember them looking that way at the show... She is a full bodied, firm, meaty bird. Kind of reminds me of a 5lb. bag of sugar. :)
Head and tail. I like her eye color...
I am new to the wheaten variety so I can not coment on her color. Now the type I really like, she is a good looking bird. Oh and so is the Black cockerel. Congrats again Max you always have some nice looking Ameraucana. Hopefully we will see some of them at our Nationals, be forewarned I am coming to compete 😂😂😂.
She's a very nice bird Max. Thanks for sharing - and for taking the trouble to take the photos. She's a keeper for sure. Does she have a little slate undercolor on the back, behind the hackle? She has some of the best tail color I've seen in a large fowl blue wheaten.
She is a VERY nice bird, Max. I like her a lot. If I hadn't clicked on the headshot and seen her eye color I'd have said I love her! :-) Excellent Type. Nice front end. Nice top line. Nice legs. Nice tail - both amount of color and also spread. She might carry her wings a little high but I'd rather have that than too low. Overall, a super bird and I frankly like her better than the Black male.
Where'd ya get your start from? How long ya been workin' with the WBS?
She is stunning!

Thanks Mike. Yes, it appears that she has some slate undercolor.
Nice! I hope she throws clean hackled cockerels for you.
I don't! Else I might have to reconsider staying with a closed flock!! :P
