With the reorganization of the Ameraucana Alliance it is time for an updated Ameraucana Handbook. Don Cable published the original Ameraucana Bantam Handbook in 1982. I’ve published updated ABC Handbooks in 1998, 2005 and 2014. With this edition I plan to print 300 or more booklets. They will include our club constitution/bylaws, history, photos and numerous articles along with other information about Ameraucana chickens and the Alliance.
Each member will receive one and they will be available to purchase on our website.
Please consider advertising in the Ameraucana Handbook. With enough paid, poultry related, ads the cost of publishing will be covered.
The prices are:
Full page ad, 4 ½†x 7 3/4â€
$170 Black & White
$250 Color
plus you receive 2 complimentary Handbooks! Please send ad information and payment to me by April 1st.

So John will this basically be a republishing of the old version? or a total redo?

Each of the series of Handbooks has been a redo. This one will also be different and fresh.
Some articles and much of the generic information will be reprinted, as we have in the past. I think the 2014 edition was the best to date. As, Mike, mentioned though there will be some different and fresh material.
Great to hear. Thanks.
Sorry due to some pressing issues with my Mother I have not been on much and have just noticed this. When is the deadline for ads and do we have to draw them up ourselves.

April fools day!
No, I just need to know the info you want in your ad and if you have a logo or artwork you want included please email it as a high resolution file, like jpeg, EPS, PDF, etc. For print media 300dpi is pretty much standard.
John, just a heads up. I'll want a 1/4 ad. Need to see if I can get some decent color pics to use. If not, I'll go B&W. Thinking maybe either at the show or after on the 19th.
Hi John,
I'll be taking a colour ad. not sure of the size yet.
Brownie.
I will take a 1/4 color page ad for $75. When do you need the funds by? I think I owe for a couple of patches yet too.
Please send ad information and payment to me by April 1st.
Without pulling out the papers, I believe you are paid on the patches.
Or maybe it was the pin-on logo name tag I owe for? I think that was it. Let me know the amount again and I will get off one check for the whole shebang.

Check mailed today for Handbook ad, name badge, and $2 extra for ABA ad, total of $87.00.
Last call for ads in the Handbook. I can wait a couple weeks for payment, but if you want an ad I would like your commitment by Friday, April 1st. A 1/4 page color ad is just $75. So far all ads are in color and I would like to continue with that format. I can layout your ad with the information you supply and you'll have an opportunity to proof your ad as usual.
As an added value we’ll include your logo (or name) with a link to your site, on our Home page, for one year.
sorry. i went to the opthamalogist today and got bad news. i'm out.
John if you can wait a week or two for payment I would take a half page add. If you can use my Black Bantam that won at Nationals I would prefer it in color. If not just black and white is fine. Just put breeder of Ameraucana LF and Bantam, with my information off breeders directory. If you can put a caption by the black bantam stating "2015 National Champion" that would be cool. Just use your imagination, I will be happy with whatever you come up with. Like I said I would have to pay in a week or two, local mill closed down so I just bought a ton of feed.
Russ,
Since all the ads so far are in color, I would like to do them all that way. A 1/4 ad is $75 and 1/2 page is $140. Just let me know for sure the ad size and we can wait a couple weeks on the payment.
Thanks,
Put me down for half page add John.
John if it isn't too late I will take a 1/4 page ad......let me know. You can use same info as the ad you used for me for the APA dealio. 😄 THANK YOU!!
OK, Gina.
Can non-members apply for an ad?

All depends on who they are what they are promoting. Ameraucana and chicken related items are what ads are about in the Ameraucana Handbook, as with the previous editions I published. I avoid commercial hatcheries, even though they offer poultry supplies, I believe since most also offer Easter Eggers as Ameraucanas their ads wouldn't be appropriate.

Looks swell. Does it mean that the book is paid for?

I don't know what the cost will be for printing, collating, stapling and trimming yet. The printer the did the last one doesn't do it anymore and the one before that went out of business. Hopefully the ads will cover the cost. Now I need to get busy laying it out and then get some quotes.
Last time I planned on doing 300 handbooks and the costs were more than covered, so the other board members upped it to 500. The problem with printing so many is that some information gets kind of dated by the time they are all used. That is one reason starting with the last Handbook I omitted listing current officers.
I think current data is more important than number. How long did it take to sell 500 copies?

Current data like that is in the quarterly newsletters and the Handbooks aren't the same as Yearbooks.
Most go to each new, first time, member, so I'm sure they are still handing them out, since I just printed them two years ago.
updated 4/6/16 from "are" to "the Handbooks aren't the same as Yearbooks"
No John, I did not mean that kinda current data but current as to the information included and/or the people and their varieties noted. Sorry about that.
They just arrived from the printer today and look great! I'll get them in the mail to all members next week. Extra copies are only $3 each to members and $5 to non-members...postage included in Canada and the US. I'll get add them on our Ameraucana Merchandise page (http://ameraucanaalliance.org/ClubMerchandise.html) when I get some extra time. 8)
Mine came today. Lovely in colour. Thanks.

I would like to publicly thank John for all the hard work putting this new Handbook together. The advertising more than paid for the printing, and most of that was solicited by John too.
But I have heard next to nothing for feedback on content.
Mike Gilbert and John Blehm : Very nice handbook and great history on the Ameraucana. I had EE's since 1973 and true Araucanas since 1973 also on and off over the years. You mention many individuals I remember from the Poultry Press during the era of inception. I remember David Caudill and Fred (Red) Cox who talked to occasionally and bought birds from Red.
Harry, what ever happened to David Caudill? I have a copy of his book, but he seemed to have dropped out of sight. And what was the deal with Red Cox getting shot? Was it a robbery?
Oh, and thanks for the kind words.
Mike, I am not sure about David Caudill but what I can remember someone was harrassing him and he just gave up. I did a search for David Caudill on the internet when I still had those Aruacanas but nothing came up for him in California. He use to write for different health related publications but they seem to have stopped about the same time he disappeared from the public. Red Cox was shot by his step son is what I was told.
