Wheaten and Blue Wheaten bantams
« on: September 21, 2015, 08:43:45 AM »
I had the privilege of visiting AA member and friend Jeff Sonsalla last evening, and of helping to sort through more than 40 young wheaten and blue wheaten bantams.  We culled a bunch, and he still has plenty of extras above and beyond what he will keep for breeding.   I told him that if he had orders I could deliver some to the national at Lebanon on October 17th.   There is an older group that is close to maturity he would like to get $20 apiece for, and a younger group that will be about 1/2 to 2/3 grown by the time of the show.  He would take $10 each for the younger birds.   If anyone would like to place an order you can contact Jeff or let me know here on the forum.   Jeff's email is:   myhometownvet@gmail.com .   As you might suspect from his address, Jeff is a veterinarian - and a real good guy..

I would be interested in a decent pair or trio of the older birds

I will take 2 pairs, or 2 trios if he has enough.

Only the younger birds are not spoken for now.   I thought the younger females we saved had very good potential.

I'm fine with the younger ones. Do you know how many he has left?

I will take two trios. These are the younger ones, right? So that would be $60? I can go ahead and send him the money.

Thanks Mike, should I contact him about payment arrangements as well? Or just settle up with you at the show?

We can settle up at the show.    There is only one more young trio left, and maybe a few extra females.

Okay, the last available cockerel is gone - only a few extra from the younger group of pullets are left.

I forgot to ask now these come with a tutorial by Mike Gilbert on what to look for when breeding right? For those (speaking of myself here) who have little to no experience breeding the Wheaten Variety 😃. Oh and thanks Mike, FYI I am not particular if they are Wheaten or Blue Wheaten or both if that's an issue.

Sure, I'm from "out of town" so I guess that makes me an expert.  Well, maybe not, since I don't wear a tie any more.    But I will be happy to share what I believe about breeding the wheaten and blue wheaten varieties.

We could set aside an hour during the National Meet for those that want to get together for a very informal Q&A forum.  It could be similar to this on-line forum where anyone with offer their experiences on a subject.
Maybe next year will can try a seminar again.

Great Idea John, I am like a sponge ready to soak up all the knowledge I can. I found it a lot easier and cheaper to listen to folks with the know how and experience. Let alone my track record has proved to me some of my best thinking has got me in trouble a time or two.
