I am getting a lot of requests for fertile eggs even though the Breeders Directory does not list me. I do not mind sharing with fellow AA members. In fact, I have asked for them from my AA friends on several occasions, and have given them to others. As much as I want to promote the breed, it just doesn't make sense for me to bother with them for casual inquirers that I don't know. Here is the reply I've started to send rather than a quick, "I do not sell hatching eggs." How do you think it sounds?
I know its hard to find a source of quality Ameraucana hatching eggs. The problem is that it requires the purchase of a shipping box and packing material. Then each egg has to be packed very carefully and the package taken to the post office. Even when the eggs are sold at $20 a dozen plus shipping cost, the effort to get them sent out hardly justifies the time spent for many of us. Then, given the uncontrollable variables once the package leaves our hands, and the typical low hatch rates of mailed eggs, we risk alienating the customer and damaging our good reputation as a responsible breeder. I just wanted to try to explain why you are having a difficult time securing hatching eggs.
Have you checked the Breeders Directory on the Ameraucana Alliance website?
