An APA state rep helps to promote the APA within the state by attending shows and talking to folks about joining the APA.   And then I also place the annual state APA Meet.  I pretty much work under my District Director, who is Bob Vaughan from Minnesota.  Bob is a really nice guy, so I'm blessed.
