Time is flying by and if you haven't sent in your Entry Form yet for the Fowl Fest please don't wait much longer.  They don't go by a "postmarked by" date, but rather it must be received by Wednesday, September 20th.

Also, please remember to let me know if you are attending either or both of our evening meals:

John put myself and my Uncle Dave down for both nights please. I will check with my wife tonight and see if my daughter has a cross country meet that weekend. If she doesn't I may add my wife and daughter for the Saturday meal also.

Whew who, less than two weeks until the greatest display of Ameraucana this country will see this year. I am super stoked, even with the molt arama that's taking place here at my house.

I had to read that last post twice.   The first time through
I thought it said, "molt aroma!"   I'm thinking, what exactly does that mean???   I didn't know molting caused a smell!     ::)

...molt arama...

With so many big events adding "palooza" to their titles I guess Molt-A-Palooza would work also.  In the old days they probably just called it a Molt Fest!  ;)

The hardware awards arrived today and this "Champion" one that Kraig Shafer donated looks real nice...and also fits nicely on my gun cabinet.   ;D

John the only thing wrong with it is there is not a Bantam on top? How will I ever be able to tell the story to my grandkids about the really nice black bantam I won it with  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D. All joking a side it looks marvelous, some member will proudly display it I guarantee.

I can get you a file and some black paint, then voilà...you'll have a bantam black Ameraucana!  ;)

The bird on top is just a generic chicken and the only one I've seen used on commercial trophies.

The Illini show used to give out little wood trophies that were handcrafted and specific to the winning breeds.  The two in the photo below are from the 90s and a bit dusty.  Not that I've won many, but they are the only chicken trophies I've kept in the house.

Those wooden trophies were hand-carved by the late George Cairns.   I have a few in my trophy cabinet as well.

Looks like we'll make the 200+ number again this year!  ;D

Quote from: email from Matt Boensch
Preliminary ameraucana numbers:

Open bantam:  107
LF open:  75

Junior bantam:  8
Junior LF:  11

Total:  201

Update 10/2/2017

Looks like the total will be closer to 209 with about 20 exhibitors!

I had hoped to make it to the national but Tawnya is still recovering from surgery. :( She is not strong enough yet to make the trip. If I left without her I would have to sleep with the chickens when I got home. :o So, good luck and safe travels to everyone. I'll be watching for updates!

Thanks for the update Max.  Hope she gets better very soon, and back to full strength.   Do you have any plans for the Master Cup this year?
