The U.P. State Fair

Mike & Mary Gilbert and Kathy & I spent some time at the Upper Peninsula State Fair, on Thursday, in Escanaba, Michigan, along the north shore of Lake Michigan.  The weather was great and we enjoyed the time together.  We also ran into Jim Fegan and his daughter Norma Tibor.  Jim, Norma and two of Jim's other adult children, John Fegan and Jennifer Fegan all had Ameraucanas entered into the fair's competition.  And, all four are Alliance members!  8)
Kathy took a photo of Mike and me outside the poultry barn.

Note that one of those chickens had muffs but no beard, and the other had a beard but no muffs.   I think we were both d.q.'ed.

Lounging outside the poultry barn at the U.P. of Michigan state fair.  For newer members, the three amigos pictured are from left:  John Blehm, Jim Fegan, and yours truly.    It was the Gilbert's first visit to this fair, and we were impressed.  They get no state funding and put on an amazing fair with quality animals in every category, a large midway and carnival rides, and a lot more.   We enjoyed it!  BTW, Fegan birds took all the top awards in open competition.

I certainly hope so.

I have a buddy about 2 hours away in Newberry, maybe I can time a visit one year to take in the fair, it sounds like a good one!
