Northeastern Poultry Congress 2016

Previous topic - Next topic

Any Ameraucana folks planning to enter or attend the Northeastern Poultry Congress in W. Springfield, MA in January?  I would love to meet up with folks and see some nice birds since I couldn't make it to Nationals this year.

Hi Temple, I plan on going because it is also the ABA National,  but  have nothing to enter as PA has closed down all testing.

Great!  I would love to meet up if we can!  I am entering six bantams - four silvers and two lavenders - so you should be able to find me hanging out in that area.  I wasn't planning on cooping in until early Saturday morning.

Please post some photos and comments about your weekend. :)

Sure John.  Attached is a picture of Temple and Russ, the ex-President of the Northeastern Poultry Congress and now I believe just an organizer.  It seems he and Temple had been email correspondents and were happy to finally meet up.  He told us how the NPC started in a very small arena where now the sales are, and eventually got more and more entries until they filled the main hall.  All the sawboards were customized for the site and stored away each year.  They have volunteer 4H's fill the cages with pine shavings all to keep their costs low.  The classes at the show were

American 192
Asiatic 130 (of which the winner was the blue Langshan)
English 43
Med 38
Continental 108
AOSB 108
LF 629                Bantam 1539    Total Bird Count 2980

The second picture is of Temple's Silver Ameraucanas which she bought from FowlStuff last year.  The pick is the boy furthest right.  Weather was great all around, not like this weekend for the Pigeon Show, also in Springfield, where a Major Snowstorm is expected up the coast.  Despite that, there were pigeons at the show, two of which made Champion Row.  Perhaps their owner had some inside information from Accuweather ;-)

And here's a shot of the famous self-blue Old English Game bird.

And here is a pretty Lakenvelder there.  There were very few, but this set was far better than the ones I saw at Ohio at the last ABA national.  There were no Vowerks ;-)

It is great to see photos of both birds and members at the shows along with a bit of a report.  Thanks for taking the time.

We were, unfortunately, unable to attend.  But here is a pic of a black cockerel, Reserve AOSB with stiff Sumatra competition.  Bred by Will and Christine Kitsch and raised/exhibited by Seth Johnson.

He looks real nice!

Ditto!   Nice full front on that bird.  Would just like to see his tail carried a tad higher to the 45 degrees.  Congrats to the Kitsch family!
