A lot of folks don't know it, but Wilmer bred blue wheaten Ameraucana bantams for several years.   He got started in them when I accidentally left a pullet at an Iowa show, and took her home with him.

I am also a firm believer in the big hen theory. All other matters being even, the hen, in my experience, has exercised the greater influence on the size of the progeny.

I understand she wrote that article in 1922 and mentions her experiences, but many of us breeders believe her "big hen theory" is an old wives tale.  There may be several genes involved in size from the largest breeds to the smallest bantams, but since the dwarfing (dw) gene is sex-linked I believe the cock has a greater influence on the size of pullets especially.
